Borodino

In Walton Ford's "Borodino," the testy quarrelsomeness of the animals reflects the frustrated desperation of the painting. Desperation is shown by the three disgruntled wolves fighting over a worthless blanket as a hopeful bird watches with eagerness, looking for anything of interest. In the distance, giddy animals search the meek remains of human existence for food .Meanwhile, above, birds circle disheartened as they search for anything useful in the barren wilderness. The combination of the dismal snowy weather and the lethargic animals shows the bleak future of their existence. Without the necessities to survive the animals lives will end in cruel frustration.
